Artist Statement: A Note From The Past Ever since i was a little girl, my moms jewelry fascinated me. All the little details and intricate patterns that formed into beautiful pieces of art that always caught my attention. She had a little mannequin that held up her longer necklaces, as well as a medium sized glass jewelry box given to her by her mom, my grandma. In the box are her more precious items, such as a necklace given to her by her mom who passed away from a surgical complication when my mom was just 25 years old, and when I was 1. At school I was given an assignment by my photography teacher to bring in objects to photograph with a 4x5 (large format) camera, and I instantly thought of my moms jewelry. As i was setting up my teacher pointed out a little sticky note placed ever so carefully in the box filled with Hebrew script; he asked me what was written on the note. I had never seen this note before, so I began reading it and translating at the same time. It was a note addressed to my mom from my grandma: "To my dear Sigal, Many blessings for your birth day. I wish you infinite good luck for the future and for hundreds of years. May you be blessed with all that you do, and may all your dreams come true. Good luck, and good blessings. Love, Mom. " As i finished reading I felt overwhelmed. A note from over twenty years ago, stored safely in a glass box, with her every day. As I took these pictures I felt my grandma with me. These photographs are in honor of my grandma and my mom.
