Ofri Shmul, born in Israel, is a Maryland based artist. Shmul graduated from UCLA in March of 2020 with degrees in Fine Art, Economics, and Spanish. Her 11 years of photography and fine-arts experience have led her to her current position as the Director of Marketing and Social Media at Ariel Services, and the Lead Photographer and Director Producer under their Digital Marketing Department. Shmul has also recently founded a production company with her father, where they combine their artistic and technical abilities through use of drones and high-end equipment. Shmul also works as the Creative Director for Flique Editorial, where she manages a team of graphic designers, and creates graphic art. Prior, Ofri spent a year and a half as a photography intern at NBCUniversal in Universal City, California. Her commitment to art throughout the years has allotted her many technical abilities including advanced knowledge of black and white darkroom processing, masterful skill in the use of Large format, 35mm, and digital cameras, as well as the post production manipulation and enhancement of photographs through the use of Adobe Photoshop and other Adobe softwares. Shmul was also nominated for and awarded the Placita Salias Deans Scholarship by the UCLA Department of Art faculty for her artistic and academic achievements. Shmul recently began working with clay, focusing on mostly realistic forms, but also venturing into the abstract realm. Her love for Spanish literature has also influenced her work, in which she incorporates elements of Neofantástico and Realismo Mágico. Specifically the works of Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar have encouraged her to find impossible moments within her daily life. Ofri loves collecting film cameras, and currently has 54 cameras collected from various antique malls, and shops around the world. She enjoys developing the film taken from these cameras in her darkroom, using both her large format and a 35mm enlargers. You can see a list of these cameras and their history HERE. Ofri's fascination with film is accompanied by her extended knowledge of Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, After Effects, Audition, and Muse. She was first introduced to Photoshop at the young age of 12 when beginning her photography education in 6th grade, and later started using Muse to create websites from scratch (such as this one).
